Unique Amethyst Quartz Crystal Specimen. Jackson’s Crossroads Mine (JXR), Wilkes Co., Georgia, USA. 18 cm (7”).
From the famous Jackson’s Crossroads Amethyst Mine, or “JXR”, in Wilkes County, Georgia, comes this absolutely unique cluster of inter-grown double-terminated amethyst quartz crystals! Collected in the early days of hand digging at the locality, this has been in the collection of the noted rockhound David Smith since he found it 30 years ago. Now offered for sale for the first time, this piece is an important example from this small but well known mine. Completely crystallized all the way around, it shows very interesting growth features on the side that was against the host rock, as well as lustrous and brightly colored purple amethyst on the front. A small amount of matrix rock is still attached. No damage at all, but does have some growth interruptions on a couple of terminal points.
18 cm (7”) tall x 12 cm wide x 10.5 cm depth. Mass is 2012 g.
